Barrick Gold is one of the largest gold producers in the world with gold and copper assets in Canada and 12 countries around the world. EELO Solutions has been advising both operations and corporate initiatives for 10 years.
Initially retained as the energy management consultant for Barrick’s only Canadian operation, Hemlo Mines in northern Ontario, our team spent an extensive amount of time boots-on-the-ground to learn about the operations and support the development and implementation of the site energy management program. Spending time in the operations was invaluable in many ways. We had real appreciation on operational challenges, were integrated as part of the site energy team, and together with management and operations personnel, we were able to build an energy conservation culture. Over time, we transitioned into an advisory role on technical, policy, and strategic aspects while supporting the site to recruit and train a permanent energy coordinator. Our work at Hemlo led to additional roles with the Barrick Innovation team, Corporate Technical Services team, and we supported energy, decarbonization, and innovation projects in a number of operations globally.

Supported the team to advance the five system level innovations that will fully transform the industry and create a zero emissions and autonomous mine
Triaged energy and decarbonization new/emerging technologies in mining, material movement, mineral processing, and energy supply and storage options
Worked closely with operations to assess and validate technology applicability
Advised on corporate wide policies, standards, and guidelines related to energy and resources management
