BC Mining Innovation Roadmap Development & Implementation
In 2019 – 2020, as part of the Mining Jobs Task Force Report Recommendations and in association with both the Mining Association of BC and the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation, Chih-Ting led a team effort to develop an industry, BC-focused Mining Innovation Roadmap.
Officially launched in March 2021, this collaborative and industry-driven project addresses three focus areas: fostering an innovation ecosystem, agile and efficient regulatory framework, and community and workforce of the future mine.
The extensive engagement process went far beyond the typical approach. Participating ecosystem nodes include mining & exploration companies, mining equipment, technology, and services companies (tech & cleantech companies), research & educational institutions, consortia, governments, as well as multiple Indigenous groups.
We sent more than 850 stakeholder invitations, resulting in 250 participants working together across eight facilitated workshops collaborated to develop the Mining Innovation Roadmap. Twenty recommendations were developed and prioritized for implementation. The project has received kudos from a wide range of companies and individuals. And we continue supporting the industry and the government on the implementation of key recommendations.
We have been supporting the BC Government and the Mining Association in implementing the recommendations, including the Innovation Challenge on reducing water consumption.
