Detour Lake Mine Energy Management Program Development & On-going Support
Detour Lake Mine (now Agnico Eagle) is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with throughput more than 65,000 tonnes per day. Detour Lake Mine is also one of the Ontario Industrial Electricity Incentive (IEI) Stream 2 participants who has signed a fixed-rate electricity contract with the Integrated Electricity Systems Operator (IESO).
One of the compliance requirements is to develop an energy management plan. EELO Solutions was retained initially to develop the energy management plan and to outline a strategy to reduce energy consumption and cost while the facility was ramping up in 2014. We have subsequently supported Detour Lake mine in developing a defensible and accurate corporate greenhouse gas baseline in compliance with the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) program and for other disclosure programs such as the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). In 2020, when Kirkland Lake Gold (now Agnico Eagle) acquired Detour Lake Mine, we were contracted to help with knowledge transfer.
